A Christmas message from Physios for ME

Before we take a break for the festive season, we wanted to finish the year with a few announcements that we are so excited to share.

Our Book

We are thrilled to announce that our book “A physiotherapist’s guide to understanding and managing ME/CFS” will be published in August 2023.

We have been working hard on this book over the last 18 months and feel it will be an important text for any physiotherapist, no matter what their speciality, because it discusses how any practice should be adapted in order to work safely with people with ME, whether the physiotherapist is working on a shoulder injury, providing rehabilitation following surgery, or helping someone with ME to manage a specific ME symptom.

We have tried to include as thorough a presentation of the current evidence as possible and are pleased to have had the manuscript reviewed by medical experts and patient experts before it has gone to press.

We are so thankful to our publishers at Singing Dragon for their support, and absolutely cannot wait for August!

Our Research

Meanwhile, we have had success with the write-up of our heart rate monitor pacing survey, “An international survey of experiences and attitudes towards Pacing using a heart rate monitor for people with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome”, which has been accepted for publication in an international journal and will be made available as open access. We will reveal more details about this as soon as we are able.

This is our first published piece of research, so a huge achievement – but we are working on several others based on our work to date so we hope to have more announcements in 2023!

We have unfortunately had two unsuccessful funding applications in relation to a transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation study, but we will continue to pursue this in the new year.

Our Website

We have made some updates to our website, with more information and new links to resources on the following pages:

Over the next few months we will continue to develop the website, and if there are any resources you feel would be beneficial please do let us know.

For now, we will be having a break over Christmas, before meeting up virtually in January for a strategy meeting to plan our priorities for 2023. Until then we wish you…

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all at Physios for ME
